The Cypher Spot runs a weekly, faith-based dance program for children ages 6–12, providing free access to kids throughout the community. Robert and Suzana are brother and sister and have been part of our breaking class for nearly two years. They came to Lancaster, PA from the Congo as refugees with their family and carry a powerful story.
Read below to hear more about their testimony from their caretaker, Darla:
“The kids were excited but initially intimidated by The Cypher Spot. Mr. Rome patiently taught them step by step how to breakdance. Robert quickly excelled at breaking, while Suzana enjoyed the energy and atmosphere of the class. Practicing at home has helped keep them active and creative.
They also learn the Children’s Catechism, which has strengthened their Bible knowledge. The kids enjoy earning ‘Bible Bucks’ for memorizing Scripture and bringing their Bibles to class, teaching them about money. At The Cypher Spot, they are learning respect, love, and how to build friendships with other kids who love Jesus.”

Robert and Suzana struggled with confidence and a sense of belonging due to the language barrier and adjusting to life in a new country. The Cypher Spot was able to make a difference by welcoming into a loving community of faith, helping to build confidence through dance and the gospel.
By God’s grace, The Cypher Spot’s urban arts programs are playing a formative role in the lives of youth in our community.
